Circumcision

Phimosis is a condition where the foreskin of the penis is tight and difficult to retract over the head of the penis (glans). It can occur naturally in infants and young boys, but it may also persist or develop later in life. Here are the symptoms and treatment options for phimosis:

Symptoms:

  1. Difficulty retracting the foreskin: The main symptom of phimosis is difficulty or inability to retract the foreskin over the glans.
  2. Pain and swelling: Attempting to force the foreskin back may cause pain, swelling, or even bleeding.
  3. Infection: In some cases, a tight foreskin can lead to hygiene issues, potentially increasing the risk of infection.

Treatments:

Surgery: In cases where conservative measures are not successful, or if phimosis causes recurrent problems, surgical intervention may be recommended. The two main surgical options are:

  • Dorsal Slit: This involves a small incision on the upper side of the foreskin to relieve tightness.
  • Circumcision: This is the removal of the foreskin and is a more permanent solution. Circumcision is generally considered for severe or recurrent cases of phimosis.
